This was part of our math lesson today! Our lima bean penguins--so fun!!! As I walked around the room, I kept hearing "aww, our baby penguins." Some of the penguins are cuddling/huddling to stay warm. Others are bellysliding, sunbathing or swiming!! Our rocks could use a little bit of work, but for the second tearing paper art project they did really well!! It is actually quite difficult to master paper tearing!

Cuddly Dudley
Here is our wonderful Cuddley Duddly wrapped in a black and white blanket.
This is the note that is sent home with Cuddley Duddly. Students must find black and white objects around their house, cut our the letter p from papers and have their parents write what they did with Cuddley Duddly! This is considered their January family project. I have the students stand up in front of class and speak about what they did with Dudley. Great listening and speaking activity! This is from Mailbox Magazine-I got the idea from my cooperating teacher in Minot, ND--Karin Haas, she is absolutely amazing!!
Here is the book! Very hard to find--I bought two books, just in case one doesn't come back!
This pull names from this jar to determine who will take Cuddley Duddly home! When we pull names from the jar, students are holding their breath! They get so excited!! The puppet behind the can is a puffin penguin from Alaska. : D
Here is our sweet, baby penguin all wrapped up in his cooler (to keep him cold) and ready to go home!!
The secret snack....shhhhh!!!!

Waddle, Waddle, Waddle
Our Cuddly Dudley Penguins. The kids loved this project. They kept saying..."We are making Cuddly Dudley :)." Cuddly Dudley is a book by Jez Alborough and each child will have the opportunity to take Cuddly Dudley Home. The book is about a sweet, young penguin who is always cuddled by his family and doesn't like it, but quickly learns to love the cuddling.

Fishing for Words
This is a pretty easy to put together literacy activity for the kiddos. I haven't done this one yet with my kids, but I did make a similiar one for numbers with apples that they enjoyed a while back! Create cute fish with the sight words on them. Place in a bucket or tub. I'd like to use ice cream containers, but unfortunately I have not eaten enough ice cream. : P I will make my fish out of fun scrap book paper! Students pull out a fish, read the word and color in the matching penguin. Enjoy! Click here for your copy.
Read and Write the Room-- Penguin Edition
My kiddos absolutely love this activity! Copy the penguins onto different colored papers (the colors on the recording sheet),laminate and cut out the penguins then hang them up around the room! Students grab a recording sheet and a pencil, then they are off to find the penguins around the room and fill in the words!! I have created one for numbers and one for sight words. : D Click here for your copy!!

My Penguin Family
In November I saw the turkey family on Miss Kindergarten's blog, so I decided to adapt that idea and make a penguin family with my students during January. I will upload a photo of our anchor chart when we complete it. Click here for the penguin family math project.
I have...Who has? Penguin Edition
My kiddos need some extra practice with their teen numbers. I created this I have, who has? game to go with our penguin unit in January. The kids love I have, who has and it's a great review!! Laminate, cut apart and play away!! Click here for your copy.

Penguin Sight Word Game
Click here for a fun penguin sight word game! My students will play the game with a shoebox covered in blue paper (to look like water) instead of a bucket. Enjoy!! Please leave me comments on ways to improve.
Penguins
I have just created a simple little sheet to go with a math center activity for our Penguin Unit coming up in January!! Click here for your own copy. For this math center, students will pick a penguin, count the fish in their belly and record on their sheet. I am new to this blog/uploading documents, so please forgive me if something isn't quite right!
